We’ve been doing some research into what’s on in London and surrounding areas next weekend… it’s a tough choice.
1. Chris Bayliss Line Dancing Classes
Get those legs-a-movin with this fast paced, rigid, communist style of dancing.
2. Riva Bingo
Wield that special red pen, browse a card full of numbers and grab a granny (or granddad) on a Saturday night.
3. Labyrinthe Live Role Playing Club
Get your best axe and shield out of the cupboard and prepare to do battle with Vikings, goblins and fat goths in a farmer’s field.
4. Orange unsignedAct MAIN AUDITIONS
A cluster of the choicest, hand picked unsigned artists delivering the performance of their life in a bid to wow celeb judges (including a special guest), millions of TV viewers and a crowd thirsty for fresh exciting music.
Hmmm…
If you like options 1-3, ask your parents what went wrong.
If you’re up for option 4 – visit www.sroaudiences.com - telling us how many tickets you’ll need and what date you’d like to attend.
The dates are now as follows:
London ULU – Sat 4th & Sun 5th October 2008
Leeds Met University – Sat 11th & Sun 12th October 2008
Get your requests in quick people – Line Dancing with Chris Bayliss is filling up fast.

Hi! Just back from the booze-fuelled bloodfest that was a weekend-long session at Riva Bingo, so I thought I'd check to see if the results have been posted yet. No? What a surprise. At the very least they could put the results of the public vote on the individual band pages. I'd be interested to know if my loyalty to the acts on my mixtape was indeed misplaced... x P x

thing is though - the promotion bands can give themselves is really small fry anyway compared to when they go on tv. This is the main crux of where all their promotion will come from, so i don't see how a delay in the bands being released will have much differnce at all realli, as theyre all gonna go on tele and this isn't for at least another month anyhow

Shoot the Duke says:
Agree with that Friedkimmel. I hope theirs some genuine reason for the announcement delay. By this weekend a quarter of the finalists will be out of the competition, and by the following week another quarter. That doesnt give the bands concerned much opportunity to benefit promotionally from getting to the final 54.
But the best of luck to all of them.

i do believe some of the tensions here would have ben relieved had the final 54 been revealed cos u cant back a horse in case it turns out to be cliff richard instead of adam ant (same goes in reverse for u mum) ...
once the final acts are allowed to blog, we will be more informed in here who to back. its a public discussion after all. as for orange i have enjoyed my experience lots but no worker is always happy with their boss no matter how temporary or lowly the position, lol. i also wouldn't think sam (after meeting him, albeit briefly, had a cruel machiavelian bone in his body...apart from the obvious ; )
anyway i have had quite the lovely weekend and got some long suffering mates to film me playing my new song 'sex it rocks' by camden lock where i was exposed to many interesting creatures of the night esp the homeless guy complimenting my voice while looking at my boobs! bless ;)
hope u had a colourful wekend too...

The standards may well be high, but not to everyone's taste.
For example, should an act who sound like the Arctic Monkeys go through, whilst I am sure that people will like them and buy their music, it wouldn't be one of them, as it ain't my bag, baby!

yes but it wont be Chris DeBurgh or Michel McManus it will be a decent act Im sure, as the standard for the auditions was very high,

I appreciate your passion for the contest, but what if the public voted for something like Chris DeBurgh or Michelle McManus?
Of course I may be jumping the gun here. It would be a rare thing for Jo Public to have developed their appreciation of music to the level of McManus and Burgh, although Crazy Frog and Pete Docherty have done very well in recent years.
For my own part I shall be attending this year's 'All tomorrow's parties' with a few thousand other misunderstood weirdos and trying to forget the indignity of entering yet another 'suspicious music contest'.
I can rest in comfort that years from now the world will recognise my own peculiar brand of heavy metal/lounge music and there will be much rejoicing. Largely from me.
Back to the toilets again. With haste! My microscopic fanbase awaits!

jackal says:
why is everyone so negative about this competition?
Because jealousy takes them over, not sure why theres no results been put up maybe its checking that the bands are eligible, but the reason that no one is posting on here to say they are through is because there not allowed to maybe.
I think the bands or artists that are through by the open audition route must be buzzing as they are the ones who have had it harder.
good luck to everybody in the competition, I know i'll be watching to see who wins, and i'll go and buy there first cd regardless of who it is.

cleveland ? well if you know a band thats got through why be so down on the comp.. obviously they will be pleased they got through.. and i dont agree leona lewis seems to be doing all right worlwide. this comp is a springboard to success but requires a lot of imput and commitment from the bands who get the break, to make the most of what they'r given if they think they can sit back and let it happen then they wont have longevity, they need to make it happen themselves also..
this competition is giving people a chance, and tv coverage and something to be proud of by just getting through.. hope to hear more positive comments too many negatives on here,

How come some people on here know people who have got through but the rest of us haven't got a clue? Anyway, people do care about getting somewhere in this competition otherwise they would not have entered. Last year's winner have their CDs in high street stores, which is more than most bands can say... x P x
About 1 month ago
cleveland says:
To be honest I don't know why anyone cares about winning this. Or even why people are bitter about not getting through to the final 50...
You only have to look as far as last years winners to see that it's not a life changinging oppurtunity. Their songs didn't even get played on Radio 1 because of a conflict of terms in Jo Whileys contract. And look where they are playing now? In a pub in the next town over from me.
On top of that if you were to win this, who the hell would take you seriously? It's a cop out talent show, just like X-Factor and Pop Idol. We don't take the acts who win those competitions seriously and it's going to be the same with this one.
You'd never be known by your band name, you'd simply be known as "The band that won Orange unsigned". And as I said above, whilst you'd have moderate success at first, after a couple of months you'd fade back into the unsigned world. Just like the winners of last year did (I forget their name).
And no before anyone says: I am not a bitter musician who didn't get through. The band I voted for actually did get through and I wish them the best of luck as well as my heart-felt pity.

Duncan Black says:
To all those who are endlessly pondering why it's taking so long, it's probably contractual. With most TV and indeed anything where airplay is granted to an artist, you have to wade through a contract stating you are not owned by any legal organisation (publishing, record contracts, management etc). They don't want to have to pay everytime you play one of your songs. Additionaly, the artists are fighting it out for a contract and the blokes at the top do not want to be sharing royalties with an existing legal owner.
Given that there are 50 bands reading through fine print with solicitors and whatnot, shouting the results from the rooftops would not be a good move. The TV people may yet sign up another couple of bands if someone drops out of the contest.
In contractual terms, the contest seems to be an indie/rock version of 'Pop Idol'. The music may be different, but the format is identical. Only difference being the general public selected the initial bands, opposed to a team of 'pop mavericks'.

No Formula 1 until 2 oclock, missed motogp, still no announcement on here, and 30,000 plays suddenly wiped off our myspace.
What a great start to the morning.
Correct us if we are wrong, but this blog is here to discuss a television programme, that has a competition element to it, and the subject matter is music. So basically the same as blogs about Pop Idol, X Factor, etc. and apart from the music element, similar to blogs about Big Brother, or any other programme with a competition element.
On all those blogs above you have discussion about the programme; what you hope to see, your concerns about how it will play out; who out of the competitors are good; those you dont like; and your own opinions, questions, anecdotes, etc about the subject matter.
But what is unique to this site is the occasional blogger, who invariably has no allegiance to any one band and has nothing on their mixtape, coming on here, not to disagree with what you are posting, and offer an alternative view, but to demand that you don't post! All they are basically saying is, we have no opinion about the programme, the competition or the music, and we would like no one else to have an opinion either.
You gotta luv them!

Hi Lucid:
If you look at the posts that we've made, we have not slagged off any bands that have gotten through, nor expressed bitterness. We've stated disappointment at not getting through, especially when we had gotten so close, but we have never, ever had a problem with any of the successful bands.
Our comments about Universal and money is logical. Universal is a BUSINESS and as such will be expecting a significant return of investment. It is logical to believe that, as such, the bands that have gone through are artists that Universal will hopefully make some money from. Good luck to them.
The indiefest comments have been made by many peeps, but no, I believe, by us. We've said that we'd reserve judgement until the final list had been published.
As far as promoting ourselves on here, we've met a lot of cool people on here, who liked our music. What's the harm in self promotion?!? Dunno what we've done to miff you off, but I really don't think we've done anything "wrong".

torn asunder: no-one wants to listen to your band. your comments on these blogs, while initially modest and accepting of your close-miss at getting through, began to ooze with bitterness and assumptions about the bands that HAVE got through. you don't know that it is probably an indiefest or the bands that will make the most money for universal. i thinking people who see a band whoring themselves and pushing themselves upon people often annoys fans. you only need to look at your fan to page views ratio on your myspace to see thats what youve been doing.
