Acts / Steve Morgan

Steve Morgan is a contemporary singer-songwriter who writes and performs acoustic alternative-folk music. He is currently residing in the northern UK city of Lancaster, although he is planning to move back to his hometown of Cardiff before the end of 2008.

With his first performance at an open mic night in Leicester in 2004, Steve has been performing for a number of years and now has over sixty gigs under his belt (and over one hundred performances if open mic nights are included), ranging from venues all over the UK, currently including Cardiff, Newport, Leicester, Lancaster, Preston, Nuneaton, Leamington Spa and the Isle of Bute.

The backing band was formed by chance when a drummer offered his services, followed by a bassist and then a saxophonist. The line-up has gone through a couple of changes since then and now features bass, keyboard, drums, percussion and the occasional flute. Unfortunately, if the move to Cardiff goes ahead, the current line-up of the band will dissolve, but Steve has every interest in forming another backing band upon his return to Wales.

Steve's debut release was the Bad River EP, five tracks that featured a plethora of Leicester-based musicians. Released in March 2006, it received positive criticism and high praise:

"Bad River is a breath of fresh air… This really is an EP for everyone… Highly recommended" (SCAN - Lancaster University Newspaper)

"I have no hesitation whatsoever in giving this a 100% rating" (Jukebox)

"Bad River is a collection of songs that showcase Steve Morgan as a name to watch closely in future" (UKmusicsearch)

Two years on, Steve's second release is entitled Calmer Than Karma EP, this time featuring members of his Lancaster-based backing band. It includes three brand new songs as well as two live recordings from one of Steve's solo performances in 2007. Release date: Monday 16th June 2008.

Gigs in Lancaster, Liverpool, Manchester, Leicester, Cardiff…!

Hey,

I've just confirmed a whole bunch of gigs for the coming months. For details including start times, entry fees, other acts, whether it's solo or with the band, etc. then please visit my MySpace profile or the official website's Gigs list (both links are above). Please note that the former is updated more promptly, so keep an eye on that one for any changes or additions.

So far - from September to December - there's Lancaster, Liverpool, Manchester, Leicester and Cardiff. I'm hoping to secure another gig or two in Manchester and Liverpool, as well as performances in Bristol, Swansea and various other places located within the Northwest. Keep checking back for any additional confirmed gigs, as I'll be posting them on there. There's even talk of two gigs in Scotland and a gig in Newcastle in the next week or so, but I'm probably not going to get confirmation for those until right at the last-minute...

If you have any questions then please feel free to get in touch.

Thanks,

Steve

Hello,

Welcome to my page on the unsignedAct website. Have a listen to the songs, which all appear on my latest release: Calmer Than Karma EP, released in June 2008. I am going to set up another page on 4unsigned (Channel 4's version), so I'll link to that once that's done.

Anyway, it's very exciting to be involved with unsignedAct and hopefully I'll come just somewhere close to the progress of last year's winners, Envy & Other Sins (who incidentally I've met and booked for a gig a few years back; nice chaps). And if I don't, I'll simply be content if a person or two more say that they like what they've heard.

On my profile you'll find a link to my official website and also to my MySpace page, the latter of which includes a few other songs that I haven't put up on here, including two from my debut release, 2006's Bad River EP.

...And that's all I can think of for now. Thanks for reading and listening.

Cheers,

Steve
